The Government of Free Lebanon in Exile
Jerusalem

An Open Letter to Mr. Issam Fares

[The Vice President of the Syrian controlled Beirut Government, who is now presenting the view of a failed Government ignoring the tide of rising terrorism.]

Everyone in Lebanon is facing a problem, including you Mr. Fares. While the world is supporting the U.S. in its plight brought about by the strikes against the U.S. on September 11th, you seem to be walking away and ignoring the honest wishes of the United States; however, the rest of the world is supporting the battle against terror and you are not.

You have been relatively honest in the past, but today you are being manipulated by Syrian and Iranian sponsored terror in Lebanon and they use you as a puppet to cleanse their image and remove themselves from the U.S. response. No, not this time. There will be no compromise on terror this time, and you will justifiably pay the price.

As Vice President of the Lebanese Government, you appear to have a multi-faceted problem: part of the problem appears mental, part of it appears political, and the other part of it appears to be ambition.

  • The mental part of is denial as Fares claims he is against terror, yet the reality is he insists on protecting its operational, deadly infrastructure.
  • The political problem encompasses the package deal in which he is attempting to camouflage the metamorphoses of Hizbollah from a terror group to of legitimate resistance. This change in outlook is to please Syria for his personal, political gains and considerations. And his ambitions for power are distorting his sense of reality, resulting in a reversal of all acceptable norms. Thus, evil transmutes into good and is described as good and acceptable. This position is dangerous for the reality of life in the Middle East and the world.

Today, this malaise is ubiquitous throughout Lebanon. These Syrian appointed leaders visit the Beau Rivage area in West Beirut to pay homage, next to the beautiful road called “Boulevard Rafic Hariri,” where Syrian Intelligence headquarters is located, not far from the location of the new U.S. Embassy that was never opened for obvious, security considerations. The Beau Rivage area is where Ghazi Kanaan, the king maker, rules Lebanon from his office in the adjacent, 7th floor building. This is where all the Lebanese political prostitution take place. All these political beggars line up for an audience with Kanaan, some to present their wives and some with high sums of cash in suitcases. All want his approval to integrate their presence into the Lebanese Parliament or Government. The approvals are guaranteed as long as they praise the Syrian Occupation and laud the Hizbollah fundamentalist tirades of hate against Israel and the U.S.

These supplicants expect Ghazi Kanaan to protect them and secure seats of power for them in a Government formed of thugs and drug dealers. Of course, the payments only last until the next payment is due. Once, a deputy from the Bekaa, Yehia Shamas, was late in paying his bribes and Kanaan threw him into a Lebanese Jail for "trafficking" considerations. This is the government that Fares represents today. Unfortunately, this Government does not represent Lebanon's view; it does represent a minority installed in power by force of Syrian tanks the 13th of October 1990.

These power hungry thugs have lost control of all civilized mores and cooperate with the daily approach of terror with which Hezbollah threatens Lebanese State institutions. They follow the Hezbollah propaganda lead by claiming the Party Of God is a national resistance movement and not a terror group in order to preserve their status and not be murdered.

How unfortunate that these men were never free men and don't understand what freedom means. They surrendered their humanity and self sovereignty to the Godfather of Terrorism, Ghazi Kanaan. Kanaan is the man that protects, assists, and harbors most terrorists and terror related organizations in Lebanon.

No Mr Fares, Don't contradict yourself by pretending you support the fight against terror and simultaneously support Hizbollah. Hizbollah is not a resistance movement. Hizbollah is the father of all terrorism, and I suggest that you not defend them.

The hijacking of airplanes and murders on the tarmac in the past was not an act of resistance; it was a defiant act of terrorism against the U.S. presence in Lebanon. So is the case for the bombing of the Marine Barracks that resulted in the death of 243 Marine Peacekeepers. The bombing of the US and French Embassies, including kidnaping of foreign nationals, from William Buckley, to Col. Higgins, to all others, were not "resistance" acts. The bombing of Buenos Aires in Argentina was not a "resistance" act.

Hizbollah have planted sleeping cells in most continents of the globe, with a mission to target Jewish and US interests, wherever and whenever possible. Hizbollah has active cells in Germany, Switzerland, France, the US, Canada, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, and many other South American countries. They have armed, terror cells sleeping whose objective is to destabilize the peace of the world when the moment of truth reaches the point of no return in their battle against Israel, the US, and the West. They all intercommunicate and take commands from their bases in Lebanon, which receives its intelligence and terror directives from Iran.

Hizbollah is to the Shiaa Muslim world what Al Qaida is to the Sunni Muslim world. They're a bunch of murderers structured in a terrorist, military organization, financed, trained, and manipulated by Syria and Iran. This terrorist organization must be neutralized, dismantled, and all its leadership arrested on charges of terrorism and subversion. Southern Lebanon has been transformed into a major terror base whose sole objective to torpedo, with the consent of other terror regimes in the area, any U.S. peace initiative in the Middle East.

The security of the world cannot continue to be at risk because the so called Lebanese Government and Mr Fares decide to "legalize" and protect this terrorist infrastructure.

Imad Mughnieh, one of the most wanted terrorists of the world, is currently in Lebanon, right in the backyard of Mr Fares and under the nose of his artificial Government. Is the Lebanese government aware of his presence?

Because the government is artificial and doesn't control anything on the ground, it does what it is instructed to do by Kanaan and Kanaan protects Hizbollah and its infrastructure. The Lebanese Government is ruled by a Syrian controlled terror system in Lebanon and no one dares touch them. Lebanese presidents, Muslim religious leaders, and national leaders, have died for opposing this system of terror that you Mr. Fares are supporting today for political reasons. This terror network is architected, manipulated, and put into action by your friend Ghazi Kanaan.

If the U.S. is to win this war on terrorism, they must issue an international warrant for Kanaan’s arrest. Kanaan is wanted for harboring, protecting, and assisting wanted terrorists and terror organizations that committed major, terrorist acts in Lebanon and overseas. If the US wants to locate and arrest Mughnieh and his friends, they must understand that it is Ghazi Kanaan who supplies them with technical support and protection on the ground.

Mughnieh travels between Beirut, Damascus, and Tehran, using counterfeit documentation. He also travels through Lebanon and Syria in armed convoys who are supplied with Syrian military passes issued and signed by Kanaan. These military passes provide Mughnieh with protection, freedom of movement, and support needed whenever he travels through the Syrian military checkpoints in Lebanon. Mughnieh travels back and forth between Beirut and Teheran, traveling through Damascus International Airport. All his transportation and moves are coordinated between Kanaan and the intelligence section of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus. These actions are direct support and protection for wanted terrorists.

No terror organization nor terrorist dare to flex the finger or muscle within Lebanon without the approval and consent of Ghazi Kanaan.

Unhappy with the Vice Presidency of the Lebanese Government under Rafic Hariri, Fares, representing the Christian Orthodox in Lebanon, has the ambition of taking the Interior Ministry away from the Murr family. This means more power for him. To succeed, he must please the Syrians, and this is why he is trying to promote a Syrian package deal that proclaims his friendship with the U.S. All done at the expense of Lebanon, the battle against terror, and ignoring the true face of Hizbollah as a terrorist organization. His statements yesterday protecting this terrorist organization were unproductive, and unacceptable in these critical days where the US is battling the Islamic terror networks.

We are coming to the free world to say that thousands of Lebanese are ready to help in the fight against terrorism and we have our assets ready. When the Middle East momentum arrives, we will ask for international support for our Government to crush this evil enemy, install a strong democracy that shall revive new dynamics in the peace process, and reverse this battle against terror in Lebanon. I cite for this instance The Government of Free Lebanon, from Jerusalem, which is ready to join ground forces, help, and assist any move when the momentum in the battle against terror arrives.

We offer friendly advice to Fares today and that is not to become involved in a losing struggle. It is a shame for him to protect wanted terrorists and terrorism for personal political considerations and advantages.

Once a respected democracy will be installed in Lebanon, then it will be productive for Fares to invest politically, and we might all assist him that day in reconstructing a new Lebanon of hope and peace. Until then, I urge him not to play any dangerous game that he will pay for dearly.
