Syrian VP Arrives in Tehran FNA
TEHRAN (FNA)- Syria's First Vice-President Farouq al-Shara arrived here in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss bilateral ties and cooperation in meetings with senior Iranian officials.
Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi,
accompanied by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and a number of other top Iranian officials, welcomed al-Shara upon his arrival at the presidential office here in central Tehran.
Following the welcome ceremony, Rahimi and al-Shara started their first round of talks behind closed doors.
During his stay in Tehran, the Syrian vice-president will meet with several high-ranking officials,
including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to review bilateral relations and exchange views over the two countries' regional and international cooperation.
Iran and Syria have forged an alliance ever since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the two countries' officials exchange visits on a regular basis.
The two countries enjoy strategic relations in a wide variety of areas, but their defensive pacts are amongst the most important areas of Tehran-Damascus cooperation which have caused deep worries in the US and Israel.
