Bush to Discuss Lebanon, Iraq with Berlusconi Next Month KUNA
The White House announced on Friday that President George W. Bush will receive Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi next month to discuss the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan and
Lebanon. "The visit will celebrate the warm U.S.-Italian friendship and the deep cultural and historic ties our two countries share", said a statement issued by the White House.
"The President and Prime
Minister Berlusconi will discuss a range of strategic issues and deepen transatlantic cooperation on the shared challenges we face", added the statement.
This official visit will happen on October 13, on Columbus Day in the United States. "The President and the Prime Minister share a strong commitment to the values of freedom, and Italy is making vital contributions to
democracy and stability in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, Lebanon, and elsewhere around the world", said the White House. Bush was in Italy last June when he met with Berlusconi and Italian President, and his Vice
President Dick Cheney was in Rome last month. The White House also announced that Bush will also receive Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus on September 29.
"President Adamkus has been one of Europes most
principled leaders in defending the sovereignty and independence of all of Europes nations, including through policies to strengthen Europes energy security", said the White House.
