Cmdr: Attack on Iran Means War

TEHRAN, July 4--The head of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any attack by the occupying Israeli regime or the US on Iran's nuclear sites would mean the outbreak of war.

The official IRNA news agency quoted General Mohammad Ali Jafari on Friday as saying, "any action against Iran will be interpreted as the start of a war.

The Iranian military official added: "Iran's response to any military action will make the aggressors regret their decision."

The Zionist regime, which is widely believed to be the sole possessor of nuclear weapons in the Middle East, is seeking to bar Iran from nuclear technology.

Last month, more than 100 warplanes of the Israeli regime staged a military exercise with Greece, which prompted US media outlet to interpret the war games as preparations for an attack on Iranian soil.

Jafari warned Israeli occupying regime last week not to attack the Islamic republic, saying that the regime was well within range of Iranian missiles.

Iran has defied three rounds of UN Security Council sanctions over its refusal to cave in to Western demands to abandon its uranium enrichment work.

The US and its western allies accuse the Islamic Republic of developing secret nuclear program for non-civilian purposes, but Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and aimed only at generating energy.

Iranian officials also stress the nation is entitled to the program as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

The bellicose atmosphere is created amid Iran's readiness to adopt reconciliatory means.

Iran has announced it is set to respond to an offer of incentives by world powers aimed at resolving the nuclear issue.

The country's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili on Thursday expressed optimism that nuclear talks could start with world powers, but also stressed the importance of a package put forward by Tehran.

Iran's own package is a more all-embracing effort to solve global problems, and notably suggests the setting up of a consortium in Iran to enrich uranium.
